Position Summary:  The Managing Editor is responsible for content coordination, development, and production of Dallas Market Center publications Spark (2X year) and Designers Guide (4X year). The Managing Editor will also cultivate and create editorial content about the gift, home décor, and fashion industries that are relevant to Dallas Market

 

Position Description (Italics reflect performance appraisal criteria):

·         Develops content ideas and contribute articles and other content

·         Participates in brainstorming and generate story ideas

·         Researches and prepares editorial lineup

·         Edits/proofreads content

·         Coordinates external Publishing staff to produce final publications on schedule and according to standards

·         Hires and manages freelance writers and photographers

·         Manages outside creative production vendors

·         Obtains senior management approvals as necessary; approves and communicates deadlines

·         Handles pre-press and press production checks

·         Communicates status and progress reports

·         Attends Dallas Market Center trade events/markets (includes weekends) to build relationships with exhibitors and buyers, and help identify trends across categories

·         Contributes to implementation of digital and social media strategy including blog, Facebook and Instagram

·         Estimates and inputs costs for photography production and freelance writers

·         Other related duties as assigned

Positions Supervised:

·         External freelance staff

 

Required Education:

·         Bachelor’s Degree in related field

Required Experience:

·         5+ years Editorial experience including 2+ years writing experience

·         Strong copyediting and proofreading skills

·         Experience interviewing and writing articles

·         Knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop

·         Excellent Microsoft Office Suite skills: Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel

·         Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, verbal and written skills

·         Ability to self-manage tight timelines and deadlines
